Discipline found at 13
Started in karate at 13, then expanded into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, and Jeet Kune Do at Straight Blast Gym in Oregon. Training continued in Las Vegas at the famed Warrior Gym before he found his true calling under Professor Ricardo Cavalcanti, a black belt under the legendary Carlson Gracie, earning his blue belt in 2008.
The Hayastan grappling system
Trained under Harout Terzyan, a student of Gokor Chivichyan and Gene Lebell who has coached UFC fighters including Tito Ortiz, and later under Henry Coll at Ronin Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Earned his purple belt in 2013.
Competing and coaching
Continued under Harout and Henry at Ronin, balancing competition with health and family. Earned his brown belt in 2017, and later his instructor certificate in 2019 under Sensei Gokor Ambaryan and Sensei Henry Coll, backed by back-to-back wins in the Naga tournament's Expert division.
Under Sensei Gokor Ambaryan
Gokor took Benjamin under his wing to guide him toward black belt, awarded in April 2020. He earned his first degree in 2023, and today teaches private lessons in Las Vegas, sharing two decades of training with the next generation.
